About me

Aurélie Nowak, neurofeedback specialist

I’m Aurélie Nowak, French by birth and a Málaga local by choice for more than fifteen years.

I first came across neurofeedback at the age of ten and rediscovered it as an adult, when I was looking to get my calm back. Today my work is making it possible for anyone to try it close to home.

How I got here

Málaga at sunset, with a view of the port and the cathedral

For many years I built a demanding career, full of travel and responsibility. I was functioning well, delivering, and from the outside everything was in order.

Inside it was another story. In the middle of that pace I realised I had neglected what matters most: my balance and my mental calm. I didn’t have a problem with a name; I had the feeling of living half a life.

That realisation led me to change course. And years later, looking for answers for myself and my family, neurofeedback came back into my life. This time from the other side: that of someone who tries before recommending.

Why I set up NEURONOWAK

Aurélie Nowak, founder of NEURONOWAK

Because brain training with a wellbeing focus, rather than a clinical one, barely existed outside the big cities. In the south there was little, and nearly all of it with a medical outlook.

I wanted this to be within reach of anyone who wanted to try it, close to home and without having to be at your lowest to book an appointment.

That’s why NEURONOWAK is where it is: in Málaga and La Cala del Moral, a stone’s throw from Rincón de la Victoria. Because this works with consistency, and consistency is easier to keep up when the centre is fifteen minutes away rather than an hour down the motorway.

How I work

I always start by listening. First of all we talk for 30 minutes, free of charge, to understand what brings you here, and from there we see whether it makes sense to continue.

I don’t diagnose or treat conditions: I guide a training process. If at any point I think you need something else, I’ll tell you, even if that means you don’t stay.

And if after a few sessions you don’t notice anything, I’ll be the one to tell you. I’d a thousand times rather do that than sell you another package.

Training and languages

I’m a certified neurofeedback specialist and I keep training, because this isn’t a closed field.

I work in Spanish, French and English. If you’re part of the French-speaking or international community on the coast, here you can explain yourself in your own language, which is no small thing when it comes to these matters. On parle français. We speak English.

What you will and won’t find

  • You won’t find a clinical practiceThere’s no white coat here, no waiting room with a ticket number, no twenty-page questionnaire before we’ve even said hello. There’s an armchair, a conversation and a training session.
  • You won’t find promisesNo success rates, no «in three sessions your life will change». I’ll tell you what usually happens, when it usually happens and what I can’t guarantee, and from there you decide.
  • You won’t find any rushNeither to start nor to carry on. You buy sessions, use them and decide. There’s no tie-in, no fee and no fixed packages that have to be paid in full upfront.
  • What you will findSomeone who does this because she tried it first, who will tell you the truth even if it costs her a package, and who remembers how you slept last week.

FAQ

Do I need a diagnosis to come?

No. Plenty of people train without a named reason: because they sleep badly, because they’re running on empty or because they want to get their energy back. If you bring reports, we’ll look at them; if you don’t have any, you don’t need them.

Do you also work with children and teenagers?

Yes, from about three years old, as long as they can stay calm during the session. With under-18s I also talk to whoever comes with them, because much of what shifts shows up at home before it does in the session.

Which languages do you work in?

Spanish, French and English. For many people on the coast that makes a real difference: describing how you sleep or how you feel in your own language is no small detail.

Does this replace therapy or seeing a doctor?

No, and it doesn’t try to. Nothing is diagnosed or treated here: it’s about guiding a training process. It combines well with therapy, and any decision about medication is made by whoever prescribed it.

And what if I don’t notice anything after several sessions?

I’ll tell you before you tell me, and we’ll stop. I’d a thousand times rather do that than sell you another package.

Where are the sessions held?

In Málaga and La Cala del Moral, by appointment. You’ll find the details on the contact page.

You’ll find more answers in the FAQ and the prices under pricing and packages.

Shall we talk?

Tell me about your situation, no strings attached. It’s 30 minutes, free of charge: I’ll listen and tell you honestly whether I think I can help.
